#AtoZChallenge : To my Virtual Friends

Dear Virtual Friends,

There are many times that I often feel grateful for social media being there. The reasons are a plenty. But one of the main reasons that I am glad that social media exists is because I found you all – my friends from the virtual world.  The people whom I would otherwise never be introduced to are now my friends thanks to social media.

A lot of people keep telling about the evils of social media. My mom was paranoid the first time we got an internet connection and when I created my accounts on various social media. But now that she knows what I do, she worries less.  Everything has its own advantages and disadvantages. It all depends on how we use it. For me it was one of the best things to happen because I now know a lot of people like you.

When I first began my blogging journey, I knew no one around me who blogged. It was hard. And that was the reason that for the first couple of years of my blogging journey, I hardly made any progress. Slowly I began to read more blogs and connect with more blogger friends. Thanks to social media where I found you my blogger friends- yes definitely virtual, I was able to make progress. You were the ones who guided me, encouraged me, gave me feedback and corrected me when I was wrong. I have met very few of you but some of you are the closest friends that I have. I wish to meet more of you in the days to come. It isn’t just fellow bloggers who are my virtual buddies; there is another category- my blog readers. The encouragement that I get because of you dear friends is tremendous. It keeps me going.

“Friendship ... is born at the moment when one man says to another "What! You too? I thought that no one but myself . . .”
C.S. Lewis, The Four Loves

This was exactly why we became friends. There were so many things that people around me weren’t interested in. But I could connect with many likeminded individuals on the social media. There have been times when I was sad and you my dear friends have cheered me up, when I was sick and you guys kept checking if I was okay, you have been happy for me when I did something good. And sometimes when my real friends weren’t around you have been there for me.

Thank you dear friends for being there for me. Though the medium of our communication may be virtual, a lot of you are real friends to me. Just like the picture says, it is just that I haven’t you in person. That is the only difference. Hope you meet you all soon.

Your friend,
Reema
