Write a Review.
Title:The Fault in our Stars
Author: John Green
Genre: Fiction
The Fault in our Stars is one of the best books that I have read recently. Though it has been some time since I read the book, I didn't review it. But today when the prompt asked me to review something I couldn't think of anything else to review rather than this book.
This book is basically a love story, a teenage love story to be particular. The protagonist Hazel is suffering from a cancer that doesn't let her breathe properly and she has to have a continuous supply of oxygen. Though a new found medication has made her condition a better, she still suffers difficulties with bleeding. She hates mixing with people especially the Cancer Support Group meetings. Every time that she has to go there, she hates and tries to give some reason to avoid attending it. And it is in once such Support group meeting that she meets Gus, that is Augustus Waters who is also a cancer survivor. And her life changes.
The book is their story and deals how they live their lives with cancer. The book is filled with a lot of cute kind of moments. And though I don't like reading teenage love stories, this book was an exception. The book is written in a simple language and easy to read. The story line is such that it tugs your heart and makes you wish Hazel and Gus didn't have cancer. It speaks about the inner turmoil they go through not to hurt each other as they know that their days are numbered and their wish to spend more time with each other.
What I liked the most about the book are the quotes in them. Some of my favourite ones include:
"The thing about pain is that it demands to be felt"
“You don't get to choose if you get hurt in this world...but you do have some say in who hurts you. I like my choices.”
"The world is not a wish granting factory"
"You gave me a forever in the numbered days"
I love reading these quotes again and again.
Overall I loved this book. This book is a good read and I recommend it to anyone who wants to read a love story. This love story is not the usual and hence demands some extra attention. But yeah it does leave you with tears if you truly connect with Hazel and Gus.
And yeah I watched the movie too and I didn't like it much. The book is way better that the movie. I have also a written a poem based on the book. Do read it
here.
Let me know your views if you have read the book.
